PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Parma Heights Animal Control Officer Miranda Braude never knows what she’s walking into when on a call.

“We’ve definitely had odd animals over the year -- a dwarf caiman and a lot of farm animals like pigs, chickens and ducks -- but the peacock in Parma Heights takes the cake.

“When dispatch sent me to go look for a peacock in a resident’s backyard, I was giggling to myself, thinking that there was no way there was actually going to be a peacock. Then I got there and I was just dumbfounded.”

That’s why she recently presented a few updates to the city’s animals and fowl ordinance, which was last updated in 2019.

“Some of the changes that I’ve been recommended are really from an enforcement perspective,” said Braude, who holds the same position with Brooklyn police
