ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The DeKalb County School District superintendent has resigned after being indicted on federal charges .
On Wednesday, the DeKalb County Board of Education voted 6-1 to accept the resignation of Dr. Devon Horton, effective Nov. 15. Board member Tiffany Hogan was the only one who voted against the decision.
Last week, Horton was federally charged with fraud for allegedly taking kickbacks on contracts while he was overseeing a small school district in a Chicago suburb.
“Given the recent federal indictment involving Dr. Horton related to his employment in a prior school district, the board believes this action is in the best interest of the DeKalb County School District,” Board Chair Deirdre Pierce said in a statement. “We recognize the seriousness of t
