SMITHFIELD – After a four-year drought that was marked by extra-inning championship losses, the Green Team finally reclaimed the title in the Smithfield Over-32 Men’s Slowpitch Softball League on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Whipple Field.

Playing three times in the double-elimination playoffs against the reigning champion, the Red Team, the Green Team showed remarkable resilience and clutch performance to secure the league’s Whipple Cup trophy.

In a back-and-forth affair in the winners’ bracket final, the Green Team orchestrated a three-run rally in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a one-run victory over the Red Team, sending them directly to the championship round.
