BURRILLVILLE – Sparked by the Kurbec twins, 8th-graders Cameron and Caylee, the North Cumberland Middle School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams swept the two varsity and two junior varsity races at last Saturday’s Northern Division championship meet at Deerfield Park’s 1.86-mile course.
The girls’ varsity squad, which is the defending state champion, zapped all the suspense out of its race by sweeping the top four places behind Caylee Kurbec (11:07.82) and her classmates, Shea Maher (11:48.45), Lydia Toth (12:29.12), and Isabella Meehan (12:46.89).
When 8th-grader Madelyn Stephens crossed the finish line in 11th place, that allowed North Cumberland to repeat as division champions with 21 points, 68 fewer than Gallagher.
