BUCKEYE, Ariz. — If you drive along Buckeye's Historic Downtown, you're sure to see good restaurants, local businesses and more. Get to the corner of 5th Street and Monroe Avenue, and you're sure to be surprised.
"I think it's awesome," Bob Smith said.
Smith was with family and friends visiting from Biloxi, Mississippi. After stopping by the Buckeye Valley Museum, there was one piece of history they just had to see for themselves.
"I like the background of the story," he said. "Why they made it and all the stuff in his pockets."
He's talking about "Hobo Joe," a 22-foot statue that stands proudly near the main boulevard.
"I read that he was someone who just got what he could and lived how he did," Smith said. "It's really cool. It's like 'Babe' the big blue ox when you go to Minnesota.
