HARBOR SPRINGS — & The Little Traverse Conservancy is inviting farmers across its five-county service area to participate in its Farmland Conservation Initiative, a voluntary program aimed at protecting the region’s agricultural legacy and natural landscapes.

According to an Oct. 16 news release, the initiative allows farmers to permanently protect their land through conservation easements that keep ownership private and farming operations intact while preventing future development. The approach enables landowners to unlock the financial value of their property without selling it, providing long-term security for both farmers and the land.

So far, 485 acres in Emmet and Charlevoix counties have been protected through the program. Notable projects include the Stolt Family Farm — 125 acres
