TEXARKANA, Ark. - Residents will head to the polls next month to vote on a proposed street and drainage bond.

For decades, city leaders say the public works department has operated under severe funding limitations.

The City of Texarkana, Ark., has shortfall of about $6.5 million annually to maintain its road and drainage infrastructure to its current condition. That's why the city is giving residents an opportunity to vote this fall on a funding measure designed to rehabilitate the city's aging infrastructure.

“This is the only way that we can increase, in my opinion, infuse the capital dollars that we need to repair some of our streets,” said Mayor Allen Brown.

The city's Board of Directors recently authorized an unbiased street study to prioritize which streets will be rehabilitated.
