ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — South Carolina State University has announced new fencing as part of an ongoing effort to upgrade campus security.
The university announced on Thursday that the new fencing would be placed along the campus perimeter to control pedestrian access. The campus said it's the latest step in a process that began over three years earlier with hundreds of surveillance cameras, an increased officer and security personnel presence, enhanced access control, better lighting and a gun-sniffing K-9.
The decision also closely follows two shootings on the campus during homecoming weekend that left one person dead and another wounded. Neither were students, officials said.
