ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State University has announced plans to add additional fencing around campus as part of an effort to decrease pedestrian access to the university.
The announcement comes just two weeks after two shootings took place during Homecoming weekend.
Students at South Carolina State University say they’ve noticed a shift on campus and among their peers.
“I've noticed how some of my people, they just feel very anxious I would say,” said student Shawnterriah Geddis.
Students say the new security measures are necessary.
“We definitely need it after everything that happened at Homecoming and anything that can promote safety we definitely need it. No more negative press, let's get it built and let's get it built soon,” said student Dory McCallister.
