ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) – South Carolina State University will install new fencing and increase patrols around the campus perimeter as it works to increase safety measures.

It comes after authorities said one person was killed and two others were injured during a pair of shootings on the campus earlier this month.

SC State President Alexander Conyers said the new fencing and additional patrols are meant to help control pedestrian access.

“The safety of our students, employees and guests continues to be a top priority at SC State, and that commitment includes making improvements as needs are identified,” Conyers said.
