Mike McParland is very happy with the 2-1 start of the Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team.

So far, the Lakers have faced three traditional powers from Quebec in the early stages of OUA Hockey season. Yes, Quebec teams are part of the Ontario University Athletics League.

All three of Nipissing’s games have been at home, a loss to McGill and wins over UQTR and Concordia. This weekend, the Lakers will take their show on the road. First, they play the defending national champion Ottawa Gee Gees on Friday night. Then comes a Saturday afternoon rematch with McGill in Montreal.

“We have to be happy with how it has played out,” says McParland. “You get selfish and think if you had played a little better, we could have been 3 and 0. I don’t know if we ever have had a more difficult start
