MARSHFIELD, Mass. —

Bird watching enthusiasts are flocking to Marshfield, Massachusetts, to catch a glimpse of a pink bird that is rare to the area.

On the banks of the Green Harbor River salt marsh, our NewsCenter 5 cameras spotted a Roseate Spoonbill.

Spoonbills are usually found in places like Florida and other southern states.

As far as we know, the bird has only been spotted once before in Massachusetts, in the Berkshires — never in Plymouth County.

Doug Lowry of the Mass Audubon Society offered an explanation as to how the bird wound up here.

"Most likely with this storm we had, the nor'easter," Lowry said. "Low-pressure systems come up the coast — they have counter-clockwise winds, and if you're a bird up flying and you get caught in that, [the shoebill] could be riding it out
