DICKINSON — During a competitive process, applicants across North Dakota submitted $153.2 million in grant proposals, vying for just $15 million from the state tourism department’s Destination Development Grant. 23 projects ultimately received funding, mapping out what the North Dakota Department of Commerce described as ‘a statewide road trip’ in a press release.

Four recipients of the funding are located near Dickinson. $1.2 million was awarded to transform the bowling alley in Hettinger into a vibrant, dinosaur-themed, year-round destination for visitors that will include a new open-air venue. Named “Jurassic Junction,” the project aims to enhance existing offerings and complement other paleontology experiences in the region.
