LINTON, N.D. (KMOT) – Emmons County State’s Attorney Joseph Hanson faces a series of misdemeanor charges, including DUI, following a traffic stop in early August.

According to court records, on the night of Aug. 4, state radio dispatched an Emmons County deputy to Highway 83 near the South Dakota border for a report of a reckless driver.

The deputy said they came across a pickup driving well below the posted speed limit, and at one point, the driver veered into their lane, forcing the deputy to make an evasive maneuver. The truck came to a slow stop, and the deputy conducted a traffic stop.

According to the probable cause declaration, the driver, identified as Hanson, slurred his speech, and the deputy could smell alcohol on his breath.
