GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Greenville City Fire Department said it is responding to a fire at the Pelham Apartments on Thursday night.
Officials said dispatch received a call at 8:23 p.m. after a tenant woke up from his sleep and saw smoke. While waiting on firefighters, he got water from the faucet and threw it on the flames which caused the dry wall to fall.
According to the chief of administration, eight units were impacted by either fire and smoke or water damage. None of the families will be able to go back into their units on Thursday.
Officials said it is too early to tell what started the fire by crews are continuing to look for hot spots so that the fire does not reignite.
