VERONA, Wis. (WKOW) — Dane County Parks is announcing the public opening of the Sugar River Wildlife Area in the Verona and Montrose Townships. The newly-expanded, 923-acre property spans more than a mile and a half of the Sugar River and Badger Mill Creek, offering diverse landscapes and wildlife opportunities.

Visitors can enjoy activities such as waterfowl, deer, and turkey hunting, trout fishing, hiking, and snowshoeing. The area also features two canoe/kayak landings for paddling on the Sugar River.

“This property is a great example of how we can balance recreation, conservation, and agricultural use in ways that benefit both people and the environment,” Dane County Executive Melissa Agard said.
