WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Next year will mark the 250th birthday for the United States.

Over the next several months, we’re celebrating our nation’s past, including historical moments in Kansas.

Just north of Wichita you can find the El Dorado oilfield, which produced so much oil that it was dubbed the Oilfield that Won WWI. Although the boom town that inhabited the area have all but disappeared, the El Dorado oilfield still holds a vast amount of Kansas history.

“The Kansas oilfield is super important -- the history of it is important to the story of Kansas,” Kansas Oil Museum executive director Bailey Martin-Rutliff said.

Martin-Rutliff said that at the beginning of the 1900s, people were coming to central Kansas hoping to make it big.
