SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Snow may not yet be in the forecast, but MoDOT crews are already getting ready for the upcoming bout of winter weather.

MoDOT carried out its annual winter weather drill on Thursday to train its employees. During the drill, agency workers react to a simulated forecast of significant snow for the entire state.

A key part of this exercise is for plow operators and salt spreaders to drive the routes that they will navigate during winter weather to make sure they are familiar with the areas. Emergency communications systems are also being tested.
