SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - The Missouri Department of Transportation conducted its annual winter operations drill Thursday, using the training day to prepare drivers for the upcoming winter season despite summer-like temperatures.

MoDOT uses the training opportunity to help drivers brush up on their skills before winter weather arrives. With high turnover rates and many positions remaining unfilled, driver training has become more critical than ever for the state agency.

The department employs approximately 2,400 snowplow drivers across Missouri who clear roads and bridges when winter weather strikes. Officials said the drill also provides an ideal time to inspect and maintain equipment.
