PRESTON, Minn. — The woman behind the wheel of an SUV who struck an Amish buggy in 2023, killing two young siblings, will serve a four-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to criminal vehicular homicide.
Samantha Petersen, 37, was sentenced during an emotional hearing in Fillmore County Thursday. Petersen had just finished up a work shift and was high on methamphetamine when she hit the buggy near the town of Spring Valley on Sept. 25, 2023. Sisters Irma and Wilma Miller, ages 7 and 11, were killed, and their two siblings were injured in the crash.
“I wish with everything in me that I could go back and change what happened,” Petersen tearfully told the court, prior to learning her fate. “But, I know I cannot."
