After suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Saturday's loss to Northwestern, Penn State quarterback Drew Allar underwent surgery on Wednesday.

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the surgery was successful and puts Allar on track for a full recovery. He should be able to resume workouts "sometime in the upcoming months," which should allow Allar to be able to perform during the pre-draft process in the spring.

It was an unfortunate conclusion to Allar's college career as the senior quarterback has exhausted his eligibility and does not qualify for a medical redshirt as he played in six games this season. Once seen as a potential first-round quarterback had he entered the draft last season, Allar will hope to rebuild his stock after a rocky start in 2025 and the ankle injury.

Losing Allar was one of several setbacks for a Penn State team that has collapsed in recent weeks. The preseason No. 2 team in the nation lost at home to Oregon in overtime before dropping back-to-back games as more than a 20-point favorite.

Following the latest loss, coach James Franklin was fired, and now the Terry Smith-led Nittany Lions will look to get things back on track with Ethan Grunkemeyer, a redshirt freshman and former top-150 recruit from Lewis Center, Ohio, set to make his first career start against Iowa on Saturday.
