The West Virginia Division of Highways is canceling a widening project on Teays Valley Road that proved divisive among residents and business owners.

In 2024, the DOH was asked to develop a plan to help alleviate congestion and reduce accidents on Teays Valley Road in Putnam County between Great Teays Boulevard to the west and U.S. 35 to the east, near Scott-Teays Elementary School.

After a series of public meetings, DOH engineers proposed lighting improvements, bicycle and pedestrian access, improved drainage and four roundabouts intended to ease traffic flow and cut down on accidents in the corridor. According to the DOH, roundabouts are safer options for congested traffic.
