LANCASTER, S.C. (WBTV) - A man who was previously accused of keeping four vulnerable adults of a Lancaster County house has now been charged with murder.

The man -- 35-year-old Donnie Ray Birchfield Jr. -- was first arrested on Aug. 1, 2025, which was just over a week after police were called out to a house on Churchill Drive in the city of Lancaster.

When officers got to the house on July 25, they found 49-year-old Shirley Arnsdorff dead on the floor.

As the investigation ensued, authorities initially found enough evidence to charge Birchfield with the following crimes:

4 counts of false imprisonment

2 counts of abuse of a vulnerable adult

2 counts of domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature

4 counts of exploitation of a vulnerable adult

4 counts of financial transactio
