An investigation is underway after an inmate was found dead inside his cell in Wilmington, Delaware, according to the state's Department of Correction.

While staff at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution were doing a routine security check on Friday morning, they found John Michael Wilson, 34, unresponsive inside his cell, officials said.

An alert went out and medical staff tried live-saving measures, but Wilson was ultimately pronounced dead around 4:21 a.m. on Oct. 17, according to officials.

Wilson had been at the prison since Wednesday, Oct. 15 in lieu of $5,000 bail on driving under the influence and other related charges.
