As discussions continue over the future of the downtown Grand Trunk site, a member of its ad hoc committee says the group could have been more effective in shaping a vision for the future community hub with a less rigid meeting structure.

Melanie Hare, who served on the committee as chair of the vision, planning and architecture working group and also helped develop the site’s 2018 masterplan, said the meeting structure was something members talked about often.

“One of the things we did have to deal with is people found the format very restrictive, and they felt they couldn’t express themselves. They couldn’t get into dialogue the way they wanted to, even at the working group level, and so that occupied many meetings,” said Hare, who works as an urban planner.
