MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was killed after his cruiser was struck while he was assisting a disabled semi-truck on state Route 11 in Mahoning County on Thursday morning, authorities said.
Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Patrol said in a statement.
“Today, the Patrol lost a member of our family. This is a tragedy for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Public Safety,” said OSHP Superintendent Colonel Charles A. Jones in a statement. “Our prayers go out to the Cayton family during this difficult time.”
