WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Davidson County man is charged with two counts of first-degree murder after deputies said he killed two of his family members this morning.

According to a release from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to 360 Raye Drive in Winston-Salem on Friday morning to conduct a welfare check.

Suspicions were raised after the suspect, 78-year-old Stephen Curtis Hicks, sent a text to a family member saying he'd harmed two other members of his family, according to deputies.

Deputies discovered the bodies of 45-year-old Stephen Eric Hicks and 76-year-old June Hicks at the scene. They also found Stephen Curtis Hicks with minor injuries. He was arrested and taken to the Davidson County Detention Center.

He's set to appear in court on Oct. 20.
