A tropical wave located about 900 miles east of the Windward Islands in the central tropical Atlantic is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms. This system is moving westward at around 20 mph and could gradually develop over the next several days.

The chance of this system forming into a tropical cyclone is currently low, with a near-zero percent chance over the next 48 hours and about a 30 percent chance over the next seven days.

Farther north in the Atlantic, a non-tropical low-pressure area is located well off the coast of the Northeast United States. There is a slight chance this system could develop some subtropical characteristics over the weekend.

However, it is expected to turn northeastward over cooler waters by early next week, limiting its development potential.
