NEWBURYPORT — When local Elk Club members were visiting their headquarters over the weekend, they were alarmed to find its American flag was flying at half staff and upside down. After righting Old Glory, one member called police to report the Low Street organization had been victimized.

Now, members are reaching out to the public to make sure that anyone who saw the flag flying inappropriately knows it wasn’t an error on their part but rather an act of trespassing.
