RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- At least three sections of Interstate 540 were closed in northern Raleigh and Wake County on Saturday afternoon after brush fires broke out along the highway, officials said.
Smoke and responding fire engines could be seen along I-540 near Leesville Road around 2:50 p.m. As of 3:25 p.m., crews were still battling the fires outside the Leesville Road area.
Another area of smoke was seen along I-540 west of Leesville Road near mile marker 5, according to a traffic camera from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The I-540 brush fires appeared to stretch from an area near Glenwood Avenue west to U.S. 401.
