A U.S. fuel-cell technology leader has joined an ambitious French initiative to build a transoceanic luxury cruise ship powered entirely by green energy. The 400-passenger vessel, designed to operate for up to 30 days without emissions, will combine six clean technologies, including wind and solar power, RFNBO hydrogen, and liquefied methane.
Called Swap2Zero, the carbon-neutral cruise ship concept is being developed by France’s Ponant Explorations Group in partnership with Bloom Energy, a U.S.-based expert in solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology, and GTT, a French specialist in cryogenic containment systems. Together, they aim to create an integrated energy network capable of powering all onboard operations, from propulsion to hotel services.
Swap2Zero is envisioned as a next-generat
