Fife Flyers were heavily outshot when they went down 3-1 at Belfast Giants in the Elite League, despite taking a shock early lead at the SSE Arena in Northern Ireland.

Christian Purboo, Flyers’ netminder, dealt with 48 shots with 22 going in the direction of Belfast starter Jackson Whistle.

Jeremy Masella netted unassisted for the visitors to stun the home crowd after 6min 27sec but Giants were level after 13min 42sec when Scott Conway scored.

They moved ahead after 18min 03sec when Marcus Eriksson scored on the power play with Vlastimil Dostalek was in the sin bin for hooking.

And Giants moved 3-1 ahead after 36min 19sec when Jordan Kawaguchi was set up by Mike Lee and J J Piccinich, also on the power play. Fife had been penalised for having too many men on the ice.
