Most of Sunday stays dry with increasing clouds and a south breeze.
Morning sun gives way to more clouds through the afternoon as the pressure gradient tightens between Atlantic high pressure and the approaching front. South winds 10–20 mph, gusts 20–25 mph, especially along the beaches and sounds. Temperatures climb into the low–mid 70s. A spotty coastal sprinkle isn’t impossible along the Outer Banks late day, but odds remain 20% or less.
Late Sunday night into Monday morning, the front sprints through with a brief window of light showers and a rumble of thunder. Not every town gets wet, but roads may be damp for the AM commute, but widespread downpours are not expected. Winds shift SW to NW, 10–20 mph.
