Customers who are in debt with a wide variety of energy firms across the UK could be eligible to receive extra financial support. The British Gas Energy Trust, an independent charitable trust funded by British Gas, offers grants to some customers depending on their unique financial situation.

However, the Individual and Families Fund in particular can provide a grant to households that are up to £1,700 in debt on their energy accounts on either a prepayment meter or credit account. Furthermore, this fund is available to energy customers in England, Scotland, and Wales.

The fund is also not exclusive to British Gas customers and can be claimed by customers at OVO, E.ON, E.ON Next, Scottish Power, Octopus, Shell Energy, EDF, Utility Warehouse, SSE, Utilita, and Utility Warehous
