EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - A child was left on a school bus after allegedly falling asleep under a seat on Friday in East Hartford.

There were two adults on the bus at the time of the incident, the driver and the monitor.

Authorities said the driver was supposed to do a physical check at the end of drop-off, but asked the monitor to do it instead. This was against protocol, according to police.

Officials said the monitor reportedly did not see the child during the check.

First Student released a statement saying they were aware of the incident and are grateful to say the student was safely reunited with his family.

They confirmed the driver was placed on administrative leave, pending internal investigation.
