SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say a man has been charged with murder following a Saturday afternoon shooting in Sumter County.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched to Louis Circle in the Rembert area around 3:45 p.m., where they found 51-year-old Rodney China dead.

Witnesses reportedly told investigators that China had been in an argument at the location with the suspect, 38-year-old Quinshan Dais. The argument then escalated into a fight, and Dais allegedly fired multiple shots, killing China.

Dais was later taken into custody and now faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He's being held at the Sumter County jail pending a bond hearing.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis called the incident avoidable and unnecessary.
