NEEDHAM, Mass. —

A line of downpours will cross the Boston area and all of southern New England on Monday morning, making for a challenging commute.

The line of heavy rain will march across Massachusetts from west to east, moving into the Worcester area by 8 a.m., then into the Boston area between 9 and 11 a.m., according to StormTeam 5.

"Six a.m. to noon is the alert timeline for (Monday). I think there will be some wind gusts over 40 mph, and that may cause some isolated damage," StormTeam 5 meteorologist A.J. Burnett said.

The downpours may lead to large puddles on secondary roads and some highways. Around an inch of rain is expected in most areas, occurring in a very short amount of time.
