An overnight shooting in Birmingham left one man dead.
The city’s West Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:05 a.m. Sunday on a call of a person shot at 12th Place and Mayfield Avenue.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said police arrived to find the victim unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.
His identity has not yet been released.
Wade said the preliminary investigation indicates that the shots were fired by an unknown suspect as the victim tried to drive away.
No arrests have been made.
The victim is Birmingham’s 67th homicide this year, and the third between Thursday and Sunday.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 99 homicides including the 67 in Birmingham.
