BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - One person has died after they were shot and killed in Birmingham early Sunday morning.

According to Birmingham Police, officers were called to a person shot at 12th Place Southwest and Mayfield Avenue at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying unresponsive in the drivers seat of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on scene and pronounced the victim dead.

Authorities say early investigations have revealed that the victim was attempting to drive away before they were shot by an unknown suspect.

At this time, there is no one in custody.
