A man and his 8-year-old son were saved after they were swept away in the Salt River on Oct 16, according to authorities.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said the two were in the Sheep's Crossing area of the Salt River when they were caught up in the river's currents.
The man's wife called 911 to report her husband and child had been swept away, out of her sight. She could hear her husband's cries for help but could not see where the two were in the water.
The sheriff's office said neither was wearing a life vest when they were caught in the currents.
Swiftwater deputies found the man clinging to holding his son with one arm and hanging on to reeds with his other hand.
"With help from good Samaritans on a paddleboard, deputies were able to get life vests to the father and son,"
