The Eastwood Mall in Niles was a sea of pink Sunday afternoon, as a sisterhood of breast cancer survivors came together to celebrate their strength.

“To have this event here, and to kind of see everybody, and to know that they have a support system just makes me feel so happy,” said Brooklyn Bokan, director of philanthropy for the Zeta Tau Alpha alumnae chapter in Youngstown.

Sunday’s event was the fourth annual recognition ceremony and an offshoot of the Pink Ribbon Cheer Classic, an event put on by Zeta Tau Alpha alumnae every October for about 20 years, according to Bokan. The ceremony started with two musical performances, followed by a recognition walk where survivors and current fighters of breast cancer received carnations.
