Buy now, pay later giant Afterpay has been hit with a global outage, leaving Australians unable to use the platform.

The international outage took place about 2pm on Monday and impacted users in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.

Online and in-store services, the app, consumer and merchant portal, and shop directory were affected by the outage.

"We are experiencing an outage at the moment that is affecting services," an Afterpay spokesperson said on Monday afternoon.

"Our team is working hard to resolve this ASAP and we'll provide another update shortly."

A spokesperson for the payment service giant told SkyNews.com.au the outage issue had been resolved shortly after 4pm.
