INDIANAPOLIS — Indy Pedestrian Safety Crisis data shows more than two dozen fatal incidents involving pedestrians and bicyclists occurred so far in 2025.
Indianapolis Department of Public Works is taking steps to address pedestrian safety needs with new technology called the Centracs Advanced Transportation Monitoring System. It works with cameras at nearly 200 intersections around Marion County to monitor traffic flow and adjust traffic signals, if needed.
"What pedestrians are doing, what people on bicycles are doing, what people in cars and trucks are doing, and then analyze the best approach to navigating our signals," said Marc McAleavey, Health by Design CEO.
