An inquest will examine the care of a young mother of three who died as an involuntary patient at Alice Springs Hospital after being repeatedly sedated during a schizophrenic episode in 2023.
On Monday, Northern Territory Coroner Elisabeth Armitage began an inquiry into the death of 33-year-old Kumanjayi Brogus after she was unable to be revived in the early hours of November 22.
In her opening remarks, counsel assisting Sandra Wendlandt told the court the Western Arrarnta woman had been diagnosed with schizophrenia when she was 25.
Ms Wendlandt said Ms Brogus "had developed a number of additional health problems, including heart problems and obesity" in the following years.
