BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) -- The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will implement overnight closures of Interstate 26 starting Sunday night to facilitate the removal of the old Blue Ridge Parkway bridge.
The bridge removal requires nightly closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., affecting both directions of I-26. Detours will be established to redirect traffic during these hours.
Traffic on I-26 West will be diverted from Sunday night until Wednesday, Oct. 22, to Airport Road (Exit 40), then north on Hendersonville Road (U.S. 25) to I-40, and potentially to N.C. 191 and I-240 East.
On Thursday night, westbound traffic will be diverted at U.S. 25 (Exit 44). I-26 East traffic will be rerouted to Brevard Road (Exit 33), then west on Long Shoals Road (N.C. 146) back to I-26 Eas
