Western Railway (WR) set a new record on Sunday by operating 21 festive trains from Udhna Railway Station within a span of 12 hours, facilitating the travel of thousands of migrant workers from Surat to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

According to officials, the operation was carried out between 5 am and 5 pm through planning and coordination under the supervision of senior officers. On October 19, around 36,000 passengers travelled from Udhna by various trains — the highest single-day movement so far for WR. This marks an increase of 44 per cent compared to last year, when about 25,000 passengers travelled on the same day. The previous day, October 18, over 22,800 passengers had been ferried from Surat and Udhna stations.
