A series of earthquakes have been recorded in the Canary Islands in recent days including a tremor measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale between the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria on Saturday evening.
The tremor was “among the strongest felt in recent months”, Canarian Weekly reports , although experts have warned that it’s not a “cause for concern”.
Saturday’s quake was recorded at 8.17pm local time by the National Geographic Institute (IGN) at a depth of 29km beneath the sea. It was felt in municipalities such as La Orotava, La Laguna, and Los Realejos.
It’s part of an “ongoing seismic swarm” which has been detected since Thursday off the coast of Fasnia in south-eastern Tenerife.
