OMAHA, Neb. —
The required federal changes in effect Monday now affect who receives SNAP benefits.
People between ages 18 and 64 who currently receive the benefits must now either work or volunteer for 20 hours a week.
Some people who were formerly exempt are now required, including veterans, unhoused people and young adults who aged out of foster care.
SNAP eligibility also has been removed for refugees and those granted asylum.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services said because of the government shutdown, it's still waiting for more federal guidance.
In the meantime, if you lose benefits call 211 to get help.
