PORTLAND, Ore. — A semitruck crash on Interstate 5 created a miles-long traffic backup near the Interstate 405 split that lasted for nearly eight hours on Monday.
Two semitrucks were involved in the crash, said a spokesperson for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). One of the trucks was carrying chickens. It's unknown if any chickens were harmed in the crash.
It's unclear what caused the crash, but it created an estimated 5-mile-long backup that spanned through most of Monday, KGW's Traffic Reporter Chris McGinness said.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. Two traffic lanes were closed while crews work to clear the highway. Traffic cameras show what appeared to be the truck cab smashed in and contents of its load spilled onto the highway.
All highway lanes reopened around 2
