Sugar is added to many foods and drinks, so it makes sense to be skeptical about the nutritional quality of commercial beverages. However, you might be surprised that not all sweet beverages pack the same sugary punch and can still fit into a healthy diet.

People sometimes assume that fruit smoothies are loaded with sugar, but that isn't always true. Fruit smoothies can be incredibly healthy when made with whole and minimally processed ingredients.
For instance, you can blend berries or citrus fruits with leafy greens, toss in nuts and seeds, and add pitted dates to balance flavors. Add silken tofu, Greek yogurt, fortified soy milk, or a scoop of protein powder if you want more protein in your smoothie.
